Good story. Quick read. Some insight to a multi-cultural relationship. Not nearly as porny as other New Adult books I've read, thank goodness. Don't get me wrong. I like my sex scenes to be graphic because I'm a bored housewife with a dirty mind, but if I wanted a detailed description of a guy's bell-end, I'd surf on over to fanfic websites. So, good story, sweet relationship between mother and son, interesting dynamic between sisters and multi-generational living. Wasn't completely sold on grandma's motivation, but it ended up working out.Product details

Out of Time Shona Husk 9781458767042 Books Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. The beginning of it started off differently than I expected but the more I read, the more I wanted to read. It kept me up well past my bedtime, anxious to see where the story would go next. ! There was heartache, humor and romance. And let's not forget the hot Aussie rock star...
The idea of a terminally ill parent and those who work with them is a difficult subject to write about and to read. I recently lost a close, dear friend to brain cancer and have to admit, this book was a hard read for me. Mike's Mom Irene is terminally ill. Ava works as a nurse in the hospice where Irene goes to live her final days. Their budding romance begins as Irene's life starts to slip away.
A rock star in a famous Australian band, Mike has had his share of wine, women, and lots of songs. But Ava is different. In trying to cope with losing his mom, the only family he has, Mike begins to open his heart to Ava.
Ava has her own misery including dysfunctional family ties with her parents, sister, and grandmother. She also doesn't trust any man enough to take the final step into sex. While dedicated to her job, she's not sure she has enough love or compassion to begin a relationship with Mike.
Filled with extremely flawed characters, this story has a slow pace with little action. To be honest, this is not my 'cup of tea' so I struggled to grasp the issues of dysfunctional family relationships, religion, and cultural diversity. To me, Mike and Ava's relationship is overshadowed by the issues.
Something funny I'm not in the southern hemisphere so the line 'it was 40 in the shade' made me think, "Wow, that's cold" before I realized 40 is C not F. I was laughing at my misconception
New Adult is a genre I've not tackled much reading wise, so it was with a general wariness that I dived in.
Initial thought Rock bands. I like Rock Bands. You've peaked my interest, Ms. Husk.
Second thought, a few chapters in Well- rounded characters and relatable emotions. I love when I can experience good writing that envelopes you, pulls you in and makes you 'feel' as you read.
Now, you've captured my attention, Lady Writer.
I've always been a sucker for the 'opposites attract' plotline but it's also a topic that not every writer can easily control. More often than not, we are often 'told' rather than 'shown' exactly why the main characters aren't a 'good' match but Ms. Husk seems to have a singular knack for knowing the minute magic of tone and placement.
I adore the effortless blending of everyday life and struggles the author blends into the whole 'rock star' status persona many musicians wear.
Out of Time is the story of Mike, who simply wants to shut the world out as he deals with some heartbreaking decisions in which there is no clearly defined 'right or wrong' choices. Ava is a wild, warm wind dealing with her own family issues that threaten to divide the lines between parents who think they know best and one stubborn girl who dares to disagree.
So, what happens when you've got two people who were hoping for a casual, no strings distraction realize they are both in a bit deeper than originally imagined? You've got a bloody good read, that's what!
The book is a stand alone in a series but I have every intention of catching up, so to speak. Ms. Husk, hope you don't mind but I do believe you've gained a new fangirl.
